The “Golden Visa” is a Residence Permit for investment in Portuguese territory. This Residence Permit allows you to reside and work in Portugal and free movement in all Schengen countries.

 

Holders of a Residence Permit for investment are entitled to apply for family reunification (a residence permit for close family members to reside in Portugal) and, in the future, may apply for a Permanent Residence Permit and even Portuguese citizenship, if all legal requirements are present.

 

Although it is not mandatory to reside in Portugal, holders of the Residence Permit for Investment must stay at least seven days in the first year and fourteen days in subsequent years in Portuguese territory.

 

ARI/Golden Visa recipients are entitled to:

 

1. Residency visa exemption for entry into Portugal.

2. Reside and work in Portugal, provided that they remain in Portuguese territory for a period of 7 or more days, in the first year, and 14 or more days, in the following 2 years.

3. Visa exemption for travel within the Schengen Area.

4. Family reunification.

5. Apply for a permanent residence permit.

6. Apply for Portuguese citizenship, by naturalization. (When the requirements of the Nationality Law are met).

 

Types of investments:

 

1. The creation of at least 10 jobs.

2. Invest an amount equal to or greater than 500 thousand euros in Scientific Research.

3. Invest an amount equal to or greater than 250 thousand euros in artistic production, preservation or conservation of cultural heritage.

4. Capital transfers of a value equal to or greater than 500 thousand euros, for the acquisition of participation units of investment funds or venture capital funds of funds dedicated to the capitalization of companies, capital injected under Portuguese legislation, whose maturity, at the time of the investment, for at least five years and at least 60% of the investments are made in commercial companies with offices in the national territory; or

5. Transfer of capital of a value equal to or greater than 500 thousand euros, for the incorporation of a commercial company with head office in Portugal, combined with the creation of five permanent jobs, or for the reinforcement of the share capital of a commercial company headquartered in national territory, with the creation or maintenance of jobs, with a minimum of five permanent jobs and for a minimum period of three years.

 

Nationals of Portugal, EU and EEA are not eligible for the ARI / “Golden Visa” Program.
